B.F.A Photography

I primarily consider myself to be a photographer, but if the expression of an idea calls for alternative mediums, I will utilize them to achieve the desired effect. So it is said that, “spontaneity is the spice of life,” I will never be all-too predictable. Much of the work I produce is conceptual and I enjoy the thrill of presenting an idea in an unusual way. I allow each piece to create an inner monologue and until I can see a representation of that story, a piece is not finished. A literary background and modest studies in psychology have led me to create art that is readable and hints at deeper, perhaps darker meanings. I strive to create an atmosphere where the viewer can walk away in a state of reflection. Conveying a passion for environmentalism or ideas of feminism often becomes a driving force of what I do and imagery related to both concepts is often found to some degree in my work. I feel a responsibility as an artist to not just record what I see, but make a commentary on it. The world can be described using any number of adjectives: beautiful, harsh, evolving, complex. I am interested in why the world is those things. For me, in making artwork the ultimate goal is to present something that will impart a strong emotional impact on the viewer. I do this by always asking, “Why?”
