This spring, Salisbury celebrates the work of 31 students and one professor, who invite you to experience what is physically impossible – to enter into the unseen workings of the mind. The human eye is only capable of distinguishing 32 shades of grey, a fact that inspires the proverb “there are 50 shades of grey.” Otherwise understood as “there is more than meets the eye”, “50 shades of grey” reflects the multi-dimensional way in which one can experience art. Like the color grey, these 32 bodies of work are unique and distinguishable, yet the influences, joys, triumphs, battles, and intentions of each artist remain unknown. Whilst each artist’s message may exist beyond the physical capabilities of viewing, you are asked to look deeper as you dive into a creative collaboration that will communicate both the visible and the invisible.

Senior Exhibition (Art 499) summarizes the University art experience through active planning and execution of professionally oriented activities such as a group exhibition and professional portfolios. In addition to creating their displayed body of work, students curate the show through participation in several student-run committees:Publicity & Public Relations, Photography, Exhibition Logos & Invitations, Poster Design, Exhibition & Opening Night, and Website Development. As part of their presentation and portfolio, each student also establishes a professional identity by developing their own Cover Letters, Resumes, Business Cards, Artist Statements, and Design Philosophies.

Celebrated as both an artist and instructor, professor Jinchul Kim (affectionately known as "Master Kim") is a Salisbury art legend. While he takes great time, dedication, and intention in his painting, he takes even greater care with his students, and through his extraordinary leadership, the Spring 2014 Senior Seminar Art Exhibition has come to fruition. It is immediately clear that Mr. Kim cares deeply for the success of his students, pushing them to expect a great deal of themselves and to strive for the excellence and professionalism of which he knows they are capable. Requiring each student to play a part in the development, promotion, and curation of the show, while also enabling the artists to explore and develop their own space and vision, Mr. Kim has prepared every fine art and graphics student for the fast-paced, high-pressured, post-graduate art world. It is with great pride and pleasure that the class of 2014 presents this exhibition with infinite thanks to Mr. Kim.
